Tips for Traveling and Flying While Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a natural and convenient way to feed your baby, but it can be challenging to maintain a breastfeeding routine while traveling. Here are some tips to help you continue breastfeeding while on the go:

  1. Pack your breast pump: If you are planning to be away from your baby for more than a few hours, it is a good idea to bring your breast pump with you. This will allow you to express milk and store it for later use. Be sure to pack any necessary supplies, such as storage bottles or bags, and an insulated cooler to store the milk.
  2. Plan your breastfeeding schedule: Try to schedule your feedings around your travel plans. If you are flying, for example, try to time your feedings for takeoff and landing, as the sucking motion can help alleviate ear pressure for your baby.
  3. Find a private, comfortable place to breastfeed: While it is legal to breastfeed in public in most places, it can be difficult to find a private and comfortable place to nurse. Consider packing a nursing cover or scarf to provide a little extra privacy. If you are unable to find a private place to breastfeed, try to find a quiet, out-of-the-way location where you and your baby can be comfortable.
  4. Stay hydrated: Breastfeeding can be dehydrating, so it is important to drink plenty of fluids while traveling. Pack a water bottle and try to drink at least 8-12 cups of water per day.
  5. Don’t stress: Traveling with a baby can be overwhelming, and it is important to try to stay relaxed and focused on your breastfeeding goals. If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, try taking a few deep breaths or finding a quiet place to sit and relax for a few minutes.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that breastfeeding remains an enjoyable and convenient way to feed your baby while traveling. So, traveling while breastfeeding is not a big deal if you are well prepared.
